Slow Food Indy is a local chapter of an international grassroots organization promoting good, clean and fair food for all. We believe in promoting good-quality, flavorsome and healthy food with cultural relevance, available and accessible to all. This incorporates supporting efforts that cultivate food justice; equitable access; and collaborations that encourage food sovereignty.
We connect consumers in central Indiana with local, sustainable farms and restaurants through educational programs, hands-on workshops, farm tours, and delicious meals.
Early in the spring, our chapter applied to receive some of the Slow Food USA Resilience Fund in order to support our slow food local community. Paired with the grant we received plus funds we have raised locally, we are so happy to offer support to farmers markets in central Indiana through our SEEDS for Good grants. These small grants are available to farmers markets who are waiving vendor fees, and give some financial aid to the purchase of much needed PPE for volunteers and farmers market workers, which can be cost prohibitive to some organizations.
Along with this support, our SEEDS for Good grant will also go to help buy leftover produce and overstock from vendors that will be donated to food pantries and other organizations that are working to fight hunger in vulnerable communities in Indianapolis.
