It's almost that time of the year again when we gather and share food, knowledge and community. As Slow Food Indy has evolved and changed over the last few years, it's good to keep traditions in place, like our Annual member gathering, and a new member and volunteer information session.
This year be ready for an interesting panel that will focus on how local farmers markets and other similar neighborhood orgs work towards fighting food insecurity in our city. Indianapolis is a USDA certified food desert. That means at least 20% of our population doesn't have enough food each day. One in 5 children in our city go to bed each night without adequate, nutritious meals.
We want to help change that, and how we do that is by supporting organizations like local farmers markets, urban farms, and other entities that focus their work on helping to end food apartheid in Indianapolis. Join us for this very important conversation and share a meal. Please feel free to bring your own reusable dish ware, but we will have biodegradable plates and so forth available. Children welcome!
